Should You Pay Your Taxes?

Business owners often find themselves with opportunities to, well, not pay their taxes. Maybe life gets busy and they forget to pay their quarterlies. Or perhaps they postpone paying their taxes because they “can always pay it back later.” Others avoid paying taxes altogether by dealing under the table. Should you pay your taxes?

Yes. You should pay your taxes.

The main reason we should pay our taxes is because Jesus said we should:

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” – Matthew 22:21 NIV

And then there’s this from Romans:

Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. – Romans 13:7 NIV

Of course, there are many other reasons you should pay your taxes, but the main reason should be that the Bible says so.

Besides, owing the IRS isn’t a walk in the park. They have unparalleled power and will find you.

Another thing to consider is that the government needs money. Yes, I know, there’s a lot of waste, but that could probably be said of any entity out there. When you don’t pay your taxes by avoiding it, you’re putting the burden on the rest of America to handle. That’s just not right.

Do your part. Pay your taxes. And be thankful you live in the best country in the world.

What do you think about taxes? Does it frustrate you, or do you have a different perspective on it? Leave a comment!
